The second challenge facing Web designers is to provide excellent informational content as well as visual stimulation while allowing for rapid navigation. Database design meets these challenges as well. Database design allows customers to receive product information and pictures much faster than waiting for a new document to load. The document template is loaded into the cache on the browser the first time that the customer requests information from the database. All subsequent requests load only the text, graphics, and images requested; this substantially improves access times and reduces user frustration.

NSA Databases all feature client editors. Editors are designed to allow clients to quickly and easily keep site information current, add or delete records, and manage the status of online submissions. Because NSA Editors are simple to use, they require very little training and greatly reduce the effort and skill required to keep your site up to date!

All NSA editors can be protected by security options from User Name and Password, User Name and Password through the Secure Socket Layer (SSL uses Netscape's 128 bit encryption) with Password, Secure Certificate Server, and SecureID Cards.

Editors are available with multiple privilege states (permissions/user rights) to allow clients to offer limited access to consumers and contributors who need to input information in the database. Contributors can set a password which allows them to update only the record which they contributed. Multiple authoring is possible to allow multiple parties to update the same record. A supervisors screen accesses all versions and can choose between them or merge the records into a final version.

Email is a wonderful way to communicate with large numbers of people, to provide status information, and to conduct on going business relationships. The downside of email is that the client does not always get the information they desire, like a name and phone number, when a customer responds. Our applications are superior. Unlike an email response, certain fields can be set as required to complete a submission. More importantly, information retrieved into a database can be retrieved online, merged into our clients database, or queried for custom reporting.

Controlling Cost -- The NSA Model
Databases are the ideal way to store and retrieve information over the web. Previously, before Miva web enabled applications, it was extremely expensive to integrate an industrial strength database within a Website. It could be done, but it required expensive, custom built solutions. HTML, the language in which all Web Sites are constructed, does not support any database functions. The solution has been to individually construct query pages based on the HTML page or JAVA programming. Re-inventing the wheel for each site requires a huge investment in programming and an Internet Service Provider who is able to run and support SQL databases. These costs combine to make database application a feature usually seen only on multi-million dollar corporate Websites.

The key to controlling cost and increasing quality is to avoid replication of effort. NSA has built a tool chest which we can apply to our clients sites. Anything from the simplest customer information request to sophisticated, searchable product catalogs and listing applications can be assembled from off the shelf components. This makes it possible to quickly and affordably build custom applications, such as the database we built for The Corkscrew Store one of our e-commerce clients says.

Our applications save you money versus static sites because it is much easier to maintain and update than static HTML design.
